So How to Become Rich With No Money?

This is his story:

Six years ago I was £30,000 in debt.

By today’s standards that doesn’t sound like a lot, but that was all on credit cards and a car loan [I had sold the car to pay the interest on the credit cards and bought a push bike – so no longer had the car!].

My interest payments and bills were almost £1,500, and as a struggling artist, I certainly wasn’t earning that per month.
So people often ask me how I managed to turn this rolling and compounding debt situation into a Multi-Million Pound Business and Multi Million Pound Property Portfolio.

Sure, all the usual stuff: read a lot, meet great people, faith, belief, confidence, be tenacious and rejection proof, I could go on. My belief is that we all have these habits inside when we want something enough, when it means enough, and when we have a strong enough reason why.

But…

Out of the 100,000 plus people we have trained at Live paid Events, and the 120,000 who subscribe to our newsletter, the single BIGGEST objection is still that ol’ Chestnut:

MONEY

And I was using that poor excuse for 27 years; exactly the reason why I never had any.

And here’s the thing: no-one wants to hear the reality. The TRUTH. People want new strategies, people want get rich quicker tools and tricks, people want to be given the answers, yet they don’t want to know the real TRUTH.

So what is the truth about money?

Well the truth is that it is just an idea. It is value. It is exchange. You offer value to someone; they will pay you for that value. And here’s where most people struggle: they don’t create enough value, they believe that in order to buy things [invest], you have to already have money [preferably in your bank account].

So how have Richard Branson, Donald Trump and James Caan become Millionaires or Billionaires?

Did they start with a Billion in the bank before they got out there and invested?

No!

Did they use leverage, other people’s money, other people’s time, inspiration and perspiration, commitment and desire to attract money from others who believed in their cause?

Yes!

So it was in March 2006, 3 months after December 15th 2005, when my mentality changed forever, I realised that I was NEVER going to become wealthy trying to put money in my bank, earning it, swapping my time for it, and under valuing myself.

And then it becomes easy…

Because it is just as easy to attract money as it is to repel it. Attracting money is a strategy:

something that can be learned, just like you can learn to repel and be repugnant to money. But remember, it is easy to do, but also easy NOT to do: so which easy will You choose?

So what did I do?

I decided that I need to partner up with people or companies. I needed to offer value so that they would use their money and resources [that is the easy bit: anyone can do it: it’s just believing it].

My decision was this:
Find people with money. Find people with knowledge. Find people with contacts.

And that is what I did.

I met Mark Homer in December 2005 and we struck a unique relationship where we both met at a crossroads in our lives. We had many similar interests, yet [and we didn’t know this at the time], we were VERY different. Think ANALyst versus Optimist!
I offered my time, passion [sometimes desperation!], commitment, drive, enthusiasm and belief. Mark offered the knowledge [at the time: I made it my mission to get up to speed as quickly as I could] and the funds.

We bought 20 properties together in our first 9 months of investing and never looked back.

We started Progressive Property on £300 each [I didn’t tell Mark at the time, but I drew it out of my credit card at about 30% APR!]. That £300 has turned into Multi-Millions.

I don’t say this to brag. No one really cares about what I have done, and I truly believe that anyone can do this: including You. If an undervalued, reclusive, anti-capitalist can do it in 5 years or less: then what is stopping you? If you’re in a better position then you have a head start, and if you’re in a worse position then you are more desperate to succeed than I was therefore you should achieve success quicker than I did!

So you probably want more ‘strategies’ or ‘techniques’: the ‘how to’ of raising JV finance. Well if you do I believe you are still looking in the wrong place.

This is what you need to do:

Get out there. Network and meet people. Always swap details and always follow up.

Be CLEAR about what you offer, what you are good at, what you want, and what you need.

Don’t go for the kill to soon. Don’t ask for the money ever.
Build friendships with people, the rest will follow.

When I think to the successful JV’s I have had, all have been or become very good friends. Trust and respect are implicit. When I think about the ones that have not worked out [which is life: move on: don’t use it as an excuse to never go into another one, and try to remain friends], the agreement wasn’t clear at the start, expectations were different, and this made becoming friends tough because we were always bargaining or negotiating.

You have everything you need. You are a great person, you’re likeable [don’t let people see you on a bad day and don’t speak when angry! ] and you have skills and knowledge that other people need: that is where your ‘value’ comes in – be clear on your value, believe in it, and get out there and build your network.
